When the mind is constantly stressed about what will happen or worried about what has happened, then you will not find a moment of peace in your life. Sit near a water body
When we sit near a water body, be it a pond or river or a beach, or see the waves or ripples in water, our mind will automatically be calm. Remember, a large part of our body is made up of water. So when we sit near a water body, we are reaching to one of our core elements or panchmahabhuti.
This awareness that you are made of the same thing that makes the universe will put your problems in perspective. Your burdens will reduce as you connect with one of the fundamental elements of the creation. If you can’t go near a water body, then soak your feet in warm water and breathe deeply and visualize the water absorbing your negative energy out of your mind.
Quieten your mind is to organize your space
The mind is not quiet when it is busy thinking and thinking negative thoughts. If you want to quieten the mind, you need to break this continuous loop of negative thoughts. The easiest way to do this is to shift your attention to another task, like organizing your space. When you organize the space, you are subconsciously organizing your mind. Act of organizing your space will tell your mind to let go of the chaos of negative thoughts.
When you begin to organize your space, symbolically you are clearing your old energies and burden that surround you. Your mind will subconsciously register this. This act of clearing your space will also divert your entire attention to the task in hand grounding you in the present moment. This will quiet your mind. At least it will not be stuck with the past or worry about the future.

Quieten your mind is the Shunyak Pranayama
Sit erect in the meditative pose of your choice. Place your hand on your knee with the palm facing down. Fix your gaze on the point ahead and then slowly close your eyes. Inhale normally. When the inhalation is complete, then start exhaling slowly and completely till you feel that there is no more air within you. Now pull your abdominal muscles inward and hold this position for 5 seconds without any movement in your body.
The emphasis is on experiencing emptiness after exhalation. This emptiness will become the source of stillness within you. Let your abdomen relax before you take the next inhalation. Breathe normally for some time before you start the second round of the Shunyak Pranayama. Do 4-5 such rounds of Pranayama.
Relax you instantly would be 5-4-3-2-1 method
This is a very powerful method to instantly anchor yourself in the reality of the present moment. Whenever you feel that your mind is not quiet, then practice this method where you are using all your 5 senses. This is what you have to do. Focus on the 5 things which you see with your eyes. Next move on to your sense of touch. Touch 4 things near you.
Focus on how they feel, their texture, their thickness, their smoothness, etc. Next use your ears to focus on 3 sounds that you can hear near you. Then use your sense of smell to smell 2 distinct smells near you and finally taste one thing. As you focus intensely on your sense, the mind moves away from its worrying thought and finally become your BFF, best friend forever when your mind is not quiet.
That is when you are anxious and worried, talk to yourself with affection and support. Don’t criticize yourself or judge yourself for taking some incorrect decisions. Talk to yourself with the same kindness that you would use to advise your friends you cared about. Your own encouragement would be the biggest support for your mind. So be kind to your mind. That is the best way to quieten a worried and anxious mind.
Use any of these methods when you are worried or anxious. Remember, a disturbed mind will create a diseased body and a difficult life. And life should not be a question of struggling with your own mind. With all these techniques which are mentioned here, very soon you will have the power to quieten your mind and enjoy your life.
