Unfortunately, people take for granted drinking water anytime, anywhere, any place, in any way they drink water.

With any proportion of heat and cold, they don’t realize that water has to be taken seriously as we are taking food and air seriously because they are required for our survival. And so today we are going to tell you usual ways in which people do mistake in drinking water. 

Drinking water during meals dilutes the digestive juices.

Digestion becomes disturbed and because of bad digestion, acid reflux, heartburn is the outcome. So understand that you should drink water half an hour before meal. Remember and drink it. And one hour or say 90 minutes after your meals. This will help keeping a right concentration of your enzymes and hydrochloric acid and would really help in a very good digestion.

But some liquid is definitely required during meals. That could be in the form of buttermilk or fruit juice or lemon juice. Something has to be taken when you are sitting to eat food. But remember not pure water. Pure water washes away the digestive juices. We have to keep our digestive juices intact for a better digestion. So plan your diet accordingly.

Mistake we usually do is that we drink water without thirst.

Our body can tell you when body needs water. It gives you thirst. But you drink water without thirst and that creates problem. Nowadays, so many advices come from all over. So many theories come that person should drink 5 liters of water right in the morning or person should take 3 liters or 2 liters or 12 glasses or 15 glasses. We just get confused and people go on trying new new theories. But it is very clear, yoga makes it very clear that every human’s body is different. No theory is good for everybody.

You should drink only when you are thirsty. Drinking water without thirst can confuse your brain. When you are thirsty and you drink water, the swallow reflux helps you to gulp down the water. Once the thirst is quenched, the body calms down the swallowing reflux. Hence, it is very difficult to swallow water when you are not thirsty. In fact, the studies showed that it would be 3 times more difficult to swallow water when you are not thirsty. You are straining yourself, you are forcing yourself. It should not be that.

Excess water in your body can cause hyponatremia, that is low sodium in your blood. You know it can affect your brain, the functioning of your brain in any case. It affects your kidney, it affects your liver, blood pressure, name so many diseases. It will cause quite a lot of problems all over. This is called as water intoxication. Remember, your body is your best guide. Listen to it and follow the guidance of your body. Drink only when you are thirsty. 

Drinking chilled water. 

When you drink normal temperature of water, water passes from stomach to small intestine within 20 minutes. When you drink hot temperature of water, water passes within 7 to 10 minutes. But when you take chilled water, your body keeps the water in stomach. Body has to waste lots of energy to first bring proper temperature to the water and then only it can pass from stomach to small intestine.

Now, this is a very big problem. In Ayurveda, it is mentioned that chilled water can do the mand jatharagni, that is your stomach heat, the stomach energy is becoming very low because of chilled water and that hampers your digestion and causes many diseases. Understand, stop drinking chilled water and help your body to remain healthy and fine. It would help in a better digestion and so better general health. Warm water improves your digestion and keeps the blood circulation intact and keeps your gut clean and healthy. So, remember that whenever you drink or eat something cold, ice cream and such things, drink hot water immediately. 

They drink water in a standing position. 

When you are drinking water in a standing position, water passes down very fast from your system. So, it doesn’t mix with the digestive juices which is required for the digestion. Water gushing down fast means that the digestive tract doesn’t get time to absorb the water and that creates more impurities into your system. Impurities can’t be thrown out. In sitting position, your muscles, your nerves, your abdominal area is relaxed and that really helps in absorption of water nicely in your system. So, I would recommend sit, relax and drink and enjoy the water.

Gulping large amount of water.

Instead of drinking sip by sip, people gulp big big large amount of water at a time and that is definitely harmful. Our saliva is alkaline in nature and it neutralizes the acid in our stomach. In gulping, water is not getting sufficient time to mix with saliva and so the neutralization of acid is affected and this might cause acid related problems. Consequently, neutralization of acid in our stomach is affected and that causes acid related problems. The right way to drink water is sip by sip. This way the water will mix with saliva completely and then it would help your digestion. 

The study shows that this way when you are sipping the water, body absorbs more water and keeps you hydrated well. So, you don’t pass out the water so much in urination. Water is an essential element if not consumed properly can cause severe health issues. In life, you may choose to have proper diet management but it should be supported by a right quantity, right way of drinking water that would make life healthier.
