Over the years, I have seen the effectiveness of traditional practices and natural remedies in treating common illnesses such as sinusitis. Today, I’m going to give you some practical solutions that can provide relief from sinus congestion.
Our first solution is about what to eat
I recommend pineapple because it contains promolane. Promolane is an enzyme that helps reduce your mucus and inflammation. To consume pineapple, you can eat it fresh. Some people find pineapple itchy. It feels that you feel scratchy in your throat.
Allergic feeling
They should make slices of pineapple and boil it with water. That water, definitely sweet water, you can drink it and then you can eat those pineapple slices. That will never hurt. Pineapple could be eaten like a salad. Pineapple, you can make a pineapple juice and drink it. Along with pineapple, you should also include other foods which are rich in antioxidants and vitamin C such as oranges, strawberries, and leafy vegetables. This will boost your immune system and help you to get relief from sinus blockages.
It’s good to start your day with a soothing and healing morning drink. Here, I will tell you how to make a ginger and turmeric drink. Boil a cup of water. Add a small piece of fresh ginger and a pinch of turmeric powder in water. Let it simmer for 5 minutes. Strain the mixture in a cup. Let it cool and add little honey. Ginger reduces inflammation and boosts immunity. Turmeric has curcumin which has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Honey, of course, soothes the throat and has antimicrobial properties.
Certain yoga asanas are also quite effective in handling sinus congestion.
Bhujangasana or Cobra Pose
In Cobra Pose, you lift up your upper body. This pose opens up the chest and helps you to breathe deeply by easing congestion.
Jastikasana which is stick pose
It is a full body stretch that improves blood circulation. It opens up the thoracic area and helps you to breathe more freely. If you do not have a headache, you can do a forward bend like Aspatasana and Yoga Mudra.
Konasana
Here, you bend forward, look up, and the congestion is automatically released. So, this pose helps in draining the sinuses and improves blood flow to the head region.
After asana, let’s see a very powerful pranayama called as Bhastrika. This helps clear the nasal passage and energize your body. In Bhastrika, sit quietly in meditative pose, Sukhasana or Padmasana. Back straight, head straight.
Now, inhalation and exhalation has to be done preferably equally. Breathe in and breathe out fully. Do these inhalation and exhalation 3 to 5 times to focus on our breathing. Now, do forceful inhalation and exhalation using your abdominal muscles. And so, when you breathe out, stomach goes in. When you breathe in, stomach comes up. Breathe out, stomach in. Breathe in, stomach up.
Go on doing this forcefully for some time. Take 30 rounds of this and stop. Bhastrika increases oxygen supply to your body and clears all the mucus. If you practice it every day, it will definitely improve your respiratory health. After these yogic techniques, let’s see some daily do’s and don’ts if you are prone to regular sinus congestion.
Always remember one thing. Keep yourself warm by wearing a scarf on your head while sleeping. Regular steam inhalation can also help to loosen the mucus. Don’t expose yourself to fan or AC blasts on your body because cold air can worsen sinus congestion. When it comes to food, it is better to reduce daily products, fried food, cold and sugary items as these can increase mucus production.
Keep your blood circulation active and respiratory system healthy by doing some sports or outdoor activities that you like. These home remedies and a healthy lifestyle can work wonders for your health. Remember sinus condition can be treated very easily, very naturally at home. So take care of yourself.
