Dry Eyes- Natural Remedies

Rumi once said that your eyes are so small yet it shows you the whole world. Eyes show you the world, gives you knowledge about the world. They are most powerful sense and so we have to take care of our eye. One of the common eye issues that today majority face because of this digital world is dry eyes. The major cause of dry eye have been prolonged screen time without blink. Use of computers and mobile for a long time can cause dry eye. Symptoms of dry eye could be irritation in eye, scratchy eye, red eyes, and strain in eyes. Here are few remedies which can prevent dryness.

Blink Regularly

When we use desktop or mobile for a long time, we don’t blink. We are so much engrossed in doing our work that eyes are open all the time. We forget to blink also. Not blinking causes eyes to dry. Every 20 minutes, close your eyes for 20 seconds. These 20-20 rules can keep your eyes healthy against all eye disorders. 

Hydrate Yourself

Drink water throughout the day to hydrate yourself well. To see that your eyes have enough tears and that would help to overcome dryness. This is especially important if you are staying in a dry and hot climate.

Consume Food Rich in Omega-3 Fatty Acids

Omega-3 fatty acids have been proved to reduce the symptoms of dry eye. There are some foods which are rich in omega-3 fatty acids. And they are, number one, flax seeds. Flax seeds could be taken in various ways. You can powder flax seeds and mix it with any of the liquids. It could be mixed with any juices, mixed with dals, mixed with vegetables. But this should be taken regularly.

Second, palm oil. Use palm oil as a cooking oil along with other oils. That would be good.

Third, chia seeds. Chia seeds could be soaked in a little cup of water. They would puff up. Now these puffed chia seeds could be mixed with milk and taken. Could be mixed with juices and taken. Any nice beverages, you can mix chia seeds along with it and take. That would be wonderful.

Fourth, among nuts, walnuts are very good, rich in omega-3. You should take one to two walnuts every day in your morning break. So follow all these food habits and that would definitely help you in management of dry eyes. 

Warm Compress

Take a napkin. Dip that napkin in a hot water and squeeze it up. Now put that napkin over your eyes and stay cool for some time. If you find the warmth of napkin is gone, again dip that in a hot water and squeeze it and put it. This warm compression on the eye really relaxes the eye muscles which are around the eyes and really helps in management of dry eyes. 

Sleep

Good sleep is required for all the problems. To improve your sleep habits, there are certain things which you should be doing. Number one, do not use mobile phones or desktops one hour before you go to bed. Second, keep your room dark while sleeping. Go to bed early and at least give sleep to your body for seven to eight hours. You may not feel sleepy but close your eyes and light up. All these things will definitely help you to give your body a good sleep and so management of dry eyes.

Environment

Windy, smoky and dry environment affects tear glands and so it increases dryness of your eyes. So try and see that you don’t sit under fan because that makes the area windy. Similarly, minimize the use of hair dryers. Don’t bring them in front of your eyes and if the outside environment is very windy, then wear a proper round sunglasses to protect your eyes.

So do all these managements and that would definitely help you to manage the dryness of your eyes. Seventh point, wash your eyelids regularly. Eyelids should be washed with something very softer like baby shampoo and you should see that the eyelids are free from dust particles and irritants. After washing your eyelids, you should do this warm compression which I have mentioned and that would be the complete management for your dry eye.

Dry eye, if not treated immediately, will lead to dry eye syndrome. Follow all these tips given and keep your eyes bright, shiny, beautiful and healthy.
