Beat The Heat With These 5 Foods This Summer

Summer in lots of part of our country hit the record temperature and at the same time it is the most memorable season but at the same time heat can make one feel very drained and energy less if we are not hydrated enough all the time. Here are these five easy rehydrating food to keep your system cool.

Seasonal Fruits

Fully ripe fruits like watermelon, like watermelon, like oranges, sweet limes, they are almost 90% water. Foods that has high water content can naturally go through the digestive tract easily and it uses less energy and produces less heat in the process of digestion.

A fruit mango is available in this season. Supposed to be a complete fruit by itself. It has all the nutrients all the minerals and vitamins in that. In hot climate we sweat a lot and lots of minerals and vitamins are thrown out. We need something and here nature gives you mango. Now we make so many new dishes out of mango very tasty and nice but we should know how to eat mango. Mango as a fruit should be eaten only after it is dipped in water for some time. Mango can be made into mango juice.

In that mango juice milk should be added because milk helps to see that the excess heat of mango is utilized. Otherwise people always complain that they have pimples. With milk they will not have any pimples. If person can’t take milk then the other option is ghee. Person must put a teaspoon full of ghee in a mango juice and that itself will help to manage the whole show. Pimples will not come. Should be eaten properly and understand one thing that excess is always bad. So eat a cup once or twice in a day and that is more than enough.

Summer Drinks

Body naturally doesn’t feel like having very high calorie rich and high protein foods in the month of summer. Cooling drinks like lemon juice, butter milk, aam pana and coconut water are all welcome during this time. They are the perfect substitute to increase water retention in our cells and keep it safe from dehydration. Have a glass of water the moment you wake up and after 10 minutes have a fresh lemon juice early in the morning. Have a fresh tender coconut after your exercise. Have buttermilk every day with your lunch.

Herbs and Spices

Herbs and spices are so much required in cooling your system down. Cardamom detoxifies your body which relaxes your system and ultimately cools it down. Cumin seeds and fennel seeds are also having a very good relaxing effect and cooling effect on your system. Try and eat some roasted fennel seeds after eating your food. Again take some fennel seeds in water, boil it, cool it down and then drink this water throughout the day whenever you feel thirsty.

Pacifying Food (Millets)

Some millets are high in fibers but very light to digest. They are rich in magnesium and calcium too. Magnesium relaxes the muscles and nerves of body while calcium regulates internal body temperature. One millet which I would strongly recommend is ragi. Ragi is very healthy millet. It is very rich in fiber and very easily digestible. It should be taken as a pudding with milk or it should be taken with curd and this could be in morning breakfast. That would be best.

Another Pitta pacifying food could be sattu. Sattu is made out of wheat, chana. Now how to make, understand the recipe. Whole wheat or whole chana should be taken in a pan and person should roast it, go on moving the hand with a very very low fire for an hour together. Once it is roasted very well then cool it and then make a powder out of it. This becomes a sattu powder. Now this sattu powder can be taken in a glass of water and in that you can put jaggery or sugar and make a drink. One glass of such drink can keep your body so well cooled that you can manage whole day with that.

Gulkand

An amazing flower preserve called gulkand. It is one of the unique preparation of India. A fresh fragrant rose petal. Those roses which are pink in color, they are called as national roses, desi roses. They have lovely fragrance. These petals are used for gulkand and in gulkand you put these petals in a sugar syrup, keep it and have a spoon of that regularly. Supposed to be very very cooling in hot climate. Take a beetle leaf or what we call as palm. Put a spoon of gulkand in that and take saunf or fennel seeds and chew that after lunch and after dinner. That would be a wonderful combination to help to combat heat.
