There is a wonderful Ayurvedic concept of daily routine called as Din charya. It provides guidelines for the best timing for our daily activities. By following these guidelines, you can balance your Vata, Pitta and Kapha, Doshas. These three Doshas, Vata, Pitta and Kapha are basic energy principles of Ayurveda. Ayurveda represents air and space, fire and water, and earth and water respectively. They influence your physical and mental health. Let’s talk about how you can follow Dincharya into your daily routine life.
First Phase of Dincharya called Kapha Phase (Kapha Dosha)
This spans from 6 am to 10 am. Try to rise just before the sunrise. Begin by cleansing your digestive system by drinking warm water with a half lemon juice. This will make your bowel and bladder movement easy. Then clean your mouth and your eyes. Ayurveda recommends cleaning the tongue proper since the toxins and bacteria are at the root of tongue. After that, do some physical activities such as Surya Namaskar, different asanas, walking, swimming to energize yourself. Then take shower and wear fresh clothes. Follow this with prayer and meditation to begin your day positively. And then take a nutritious breakfast. This can be something that depends with your age and your body’s nature. Just make sure that you have enough energy to go ahead with your day’s routine. At work, you should take short breaks for little brisk walk, for doing some body movements and so on.

Second Phase is Pitta Phase (Pitta Dosha)
This is from 10 am to 2 pm. These are your most productive hours. Concentrate on work or usual activities during this time. To manage any work related stress, take short breaks to avoid excessive strain and maintain your productivity. Have the main meal of the day around noon time when the digestion is strongest. Before lunch, for 10 minutes, walk briskly. And after lunch, walk slowly, strolling for 100 steps for a better digestion.
Third Phase is Vata Phase (Vata Dosha)
At this phase from 2 pm to 6 pm. At this time, do conscious relaxation. Light work or any work that does not demand intense focus. If you work in an office, do some conscious relaxation. During your short break, to refresh your mind, if possible, take a little stroll outside in the nature. When you are with nature, take your deep breathing or do some light stretches. Sip on Tulsi or herbal tea. If you are at home, as the sun sets, you should light Diya and pray or meditate.

The Phases Starts Again
Now again we enter the Kapha stage, from 6 pm to 10 pm. Upon returning home from work, take a light dinner by 7 pm for good digestion. Give importance to family time, reading or playing with family. And now, start preparing for bedtime. Carve your body with little head massage and foot massage. Wear loose, comfortable cotton clothes and then dim the light and go to the bed.
Between 10 pm and 2 am is the Pitta phase of night. Every night, try to go to bed at a fixed time, around 10 pm bedtime. This will give you enough rest for healing and rejuvenation. Give importance to quality sleep. If you had an early morning work commitment, the next would be Vata phase, from 2 am to 6 am. This is the period of light rest and completion of cellular repair. It is important to get uninterrupted sleep during these hours. If awakened, you will not be able to sleep. Try to meditate, have some mudras, do some pranayamas.
As 6 am approaches, the cycle restarts as the Kapha phase of the morning. Throughout the day, your routine can be still aligned with the Darshan Dosha cycle. You must remember that throughout the day at night, we move at different Vata, Pitta and Kapha Dosha. Our body is aligned with the universe in this way.
In fact, we are a miniature universe, aren’t we? So try to harmonize your routine with nature’s cycle throughout the day. You will notice how your life becomes so naturally healthy and so nicely flowing with a systematic organized time that you will enjoy your health.
